Present vs. Past vs. HAVE GAINED

“I gain…” / something that happens to me now / it is happening to me now / NOW ONLY

e.g. When I work at this internship I gain new knowledge.

“I gained…”/ something that happened to me in the past / when the internship is over / IN THE PAST + NOT NOW

e.g. When I worked at the internship, I gained new knowledge.

“I have gained…”  / something that has happened to me in the past and is still happening to me now / IN THE PAST + NOW

e.g. While I have been working at this internship, I have gained new knowledge. 

e.g. What have you learned at your internship? I have learned many things. I learned many things. I learn many things.

I can discover about the company how to work, about this department how to work / I can discover new ways to work while at this company / while I am working in this department I can learn how to work

When we talk about something that we USUALLY do – it’s like our usual schedule or habit (习惯) – we should use PRESENT TENSE

e.g. I have been training for 3-4 times every week / [I usually train 3-4 times a week]

I get off my from work at 7 PM

the class beginner begins at 8 PM – and ends at 9:30 / the class goes from 8 until 9 pM.
