Vocabulary

Celebrity (名人) — def: a very famous person; they usually appear in movies and magazines

e.g. Angela Baby is the biggest celebrity in China!

Gossip (八卦) — def: spreading or talking about silly rumors;

e.g. It’s important to make friends with everyone at work and not spread office gossip.

Variety Show (综艺节目) — def: a funny TV show that has a mix of interviews, games, and music.

e.g. American and Chinese audience both loves variety shows to see all the celebrities!

Eye Drops (眼药水) def: a little bottle of medicine used to clean your eye or remove something painful from your eye or to stop itchiness (痒)  in your eye.

e.g. Do anyone have any eye drops? My right eye won’t stop itching.

Siblings — def: your brothers and/or sisters.

e.g. I have 2 siblings — 1 brother and 1 sister.

White Lie  — def: a lie about an unimportant topic; you tell something untrue but it doesn’t cause a big issue or you tell a white lie because you don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings.

e.g. I told my wife that her dress was beautiful, even though it was a white lie. I just didn’t want to hurt her feelings.

All-Time Favorite — def: Unconstrained by time; if you could choose something from the beginning of time until today, which would you choose?

e.g. Maroon 5 is my all-time favorite band, even though they are a very recent one.

Go-To Cocktail — def: This is the drink that I order almost every time…it’s my favorite…I don’t even have to think about it…it’s my go-to.

e.g. The menu was far too big, so I just chose my go-to cocktail: vodka and soda.

Tricky — def: an adjective describing an action or person or problem that is very difficult; it requires lots of thinking to find the solution.

e.g. It took me several hours to finish the puzzle — it was very tricky.

Sacrifice (牺牲) — def: a difficult or painful thing that I do for someone else because I love or care about them.

e.g. I hate going to see musicals, but it’s a sacrifice that I do for my wife.
