Vocabulary

Terrorism (恐怖主义) — defn: Violent actions committed/done by mentally sick people to make others in society fearful. Often they hope that by striking fear in the society, they can achieve political goals or change the society in a way that they want.

e.g. The United States suffers from many different acts of terrorism each year.

e.g. Terrorism is a big problem in the world. Therefore world governments should punish terrorists. Terrorists strike terror in society by using terrorism.

Nasal — def. referring to the nose.

e.g. “Last week I had a cold, so it was really difficult for me to breath; my nasal passage was blocked.

Stabbing —def: to hurt someone or slash someone with a knife.

Mass Stabbing / Mass Shooting — def: the killing or injuring of many people with a knife or gun (i.e. a “mass” amount of people or a big amount of people rather than just one victim).

Atrocity (暴行) / Tragedy (悲剧) — def: profoundly/incredibly sad events.

e.g. All mass shootings are great atrocities on our society. All mass stabbings are profound tragedies.

Pronunciation

Colleagues — pronounced: cah-leegs

Past — focus on pronouncing this word “harshly”; pa-st, not pah-st.

The — focus on the first two letters “TH”…THUH, THUH; not THER. Try to remove the “r” sound.

Because — focus on removing the R sound; BE-CUZ, NOT BE-CURZ
