Vocabulary

rug – 返回
e.g. I got a new rug in my office — it’s smaller than a carpet!

inwardly – from the heart

massacre – slaughter

genocide – a systematic attempt to kill off an entire group of people
e.g. The Holocaust of WW2 is probably the most famous genocide in history.
e.g. There is also the Armenian genocide that took place in Armenia.

Holocaust – 大屠杀
e.g. The Holocaust was the most infamous genocide in history.

infamous – being famous for a bad reason
e.g. Serial killers are very infamous. Some serial killers live in infamy.

concerted effort – a well organized, team-based attempt
e.g. Jewish people made a concerted effort to tell the world their story.

chosen people – the Promised Land – the Elect – “saved”
e.g. Even if the world is at war, God will protect his Elect.
e.g. Are you saved? This means have you given your heart to the Lord/God.

Rabbi – 拉比

devout / devotion – serious with religion
e.g. I was raised in a devout household / home.

household – the home and family considered in big economic terms
e.g. Household income, household spending, household debt.

lobby – lobbied – advocated for – said this was a good idea

elective – “selective course” – you choose
e.g. Chinese is an elective course in American high schools.

signal their status – this is how I show you I am richer than you
e.g. Sometimes people buy iPhones or Gucci handbags to signal their status.

e.g. Sharing IP is a national security issue / is an issue of national security.
