Set in the Second Sino-Japanese War, this movie which is called Empire of the Sun describes the Jimmys were dispersed by the crowd when they were fleeing, causing Jimmy to be in the Japanese concentration camp. The movie is not intended to tell history, it is being about people. Through the eyes of a British aristocratic child, the movie brings the joys and sorrow of the concentration camp to the audience, showing the relationship between idealism and realism in human nature. The war in his eyes was not the one we knew. He was passionate about fighters and appreciated the Japanese. He didn’t know the war was cruel and what the enemy was for him. He just felt terrified and shouted that he surrendered. He could bent his knees and beg the Japanese to forgive him. There was not much more morals burden on him. It didn’t mean that he was a immoral person.Especially after living in a concentration camp, his aristocratic habits were washed away, he even ate all the bugs in the meal and called that was protein.
If the war is to interrupt and rewrite the destiny of mankind through the merciless and brutal means. It brutally deprives people of the possibility of survival.
On the contrary, it is possible to survive tenaciously in this horrible haze until the end of the war is a confrontation and a great victory.
At the end of the movie, many parents came to the dilapidated rescue to find their children. When Jimmy’s father walked past him, completely ignoring him.Fortunately, his mother recognized him. He touched her lips, clothes, hair and face. He quietly embraced his mother, but he couldn’t go back and even cry out. He has faced too many deaths and misfortunes and he has forgotten the face of his parent and familial affection. The vicissitudes of life in his eyes, and he was helpless to the world. He was no longer the old boy.
No matter how you think of war, the trauma caused by war is indelible to the victims. In war, there is no equality and understanding, and just discrimination and anger. So we should cherish the peace now.
