Today we focused on:

diner (n): in the US, a small informal and inexpensive restaurant, often at the side of the road
(美国的)小餐馆,小饭馆
E.g.: I had a hearty meal in a crowded diner.
我在拥挤的餐车上美美地饱餐了一顿。

line sb up(v): to arrange people or things in a row or to stand in a row
排列,排队;使(某人)排成行
E.g.: She lined up all her dolls on the bed.
E.g.: They lined up to visit the mausoleum.

line (n)a group of people standing one behind the other who are waiting for something
(一群人排列等候所形成的)队,排
E.g.: Just get in line and wait your turn like everyone else.
和别人一样排队等着去。
E.g.: I had to wait/stand in line for three hours to get tickets.
我排了3个小时的队才买到票。

queue (n): a line of people, usually standing or in cars, waiting for something
(人或车排成的)队,行列
E.g.: Are you in the queue for tickets?
你是在排队买票吗?
E.g.: There was a long queue of traffic stretching down the road.
车辆在这条路上排起了长龙。

queue (up)   :(v)to wait in a line of people, often to buy something
排队
E.g.: Dozens of people were queueing up to get tickets.
几十个人在排队买票。
E.g.: We had to queue for three hours to get in.
我们排了3个小时队才得以进入。

onomatopoeic (adj): (of a word) sounding similar to the noise the word refers to:
E.g.: “Pop”, “boom”, and “squelch” are onomatopoeic words.
E.g.: The word “click” is onomatopoeic in itself.

superstition (n): belief that is not based on human reason or scientific knowledge, but is connected with old ideas about magic, etc.
迷信
E.g.: According to superstition, if you walk under a ladder it brings you bad luck.
按照迷信的说法,从梯子下走过会带来厄运。
E.g.: I don’t believe in the old superstition that the number 13 is unlucky.
我不相信数字13不吉利这样的旧迷信思想。

superstitious (adj):
E.g.: you’re super superstitious 🙂
E.g.: Some people are superstitious about spilling salt on the table.
有些人迷信地认为把盐撒在桌上不吉利。
