discourage (v):to make someone feel less confident, enthusiastic, and positive about something, or less willing to do something使泄气，给…泼冷水，使心灰意冷
E.g.: The thought of how much work she had to do discouraged her.
一想到还有那么多工作得做她就泄了气。
E.g.: I don’t want to discourage you but I want you to know the full truth

encourage (v):to make someone more likely to do something, or to make something more likely to happen刺激，激励；促进；助长
E.g.: We were encouraged to learn foreign languages at school.

attend (v):to go to an event, place, etc.
