Vocabulary

peninsula (n): 1-a long piece of land that sticks out from a larger area of land into the sea or into a lake:
E.g.: the Korean/Arabian/Florida Peninsula

uprising (n)-起义, a situation in which a group of people join together in order to fight against the people who are in power
E.g.: The military operation was the first step in a plan to crush the uprising.

annexation (n)兼并
E.g.: The annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany

annex (v): to take possession of an area of land or a country and add it to a larger area, usually by force:
E.g.: The United States annexed parts of Texas and New Mexico, which belonged to Mexico.

heir (to the throne):-王位继承人, a person who will legally receive money, property, or a title from another person, especially an older member of the same family, when that other person dies:
E.g.: The guest of honor was the Romanov heir to the throne of all Russia.
E.g.: Despite having a large family, they still had no son and heir.

ultimatum (n)最后通牒, a threat in which a person or group of people are warned that if they do not do a particular thing, something unpleasant will happen to them. It is usually the last and most extreme in a series of actions taken to bring about a particular result:
E.g.: He gave her an ultimatum – she could either stop seeing Peter and come back to him or it was divorce.
E.g.: On Wednesday night the UN issued its toughest ultimatum to date, demanding that all troops withdraw from the city.

ethnicity (n): 种族, a large group of people who have the same national, racial, or cultural origins, or the state of belonging to such a group:
E.g.: They place no importance on ethnicity.

Catholic (n/adj) church-天主教堂, Roman Catholic:
E.g.: Is he (a) Catholic?
E.g.: a Catholic school/church

Orthodox church-东正教会, a Christian religious group with many members in Greece and eastern Europe, or any particular church belonging to this group
