Vocabulary

federation (n): 1-a group of organizations, regions, countries, etc. that have joined together to form a larger organization or government:
E.g.: a federation of states/companies/trade unions, etc.
E.g.: The United States is a federation of 50 individual states.

association (n): 1-a group of people who work together in a single organization for a particular purpose:
E.g.: The Football Association
E.g.: a business/professional/national association

stands for- If one or more letters stand for a word or name, they are the first letter or letters of that word or name and they represent it:
E.g.: FIFA stands for Federal International Football Association

throw in the towel-to admit defeat, to stop trying to do something because you have realized that you cannot succeed

sparring partner-a person you train boxing with

spar (v): 1-to practice the sport of boxing without hitting hard:
E.g.: Mark sparred with his partner for about an hour.

relieve (v): 1-to make an unpleasant feeling, such as pain or worry, less strong:
E.g.: She relieved her boredom at home by learning how to type.
