Vocabulary

bangs (n): an area of hair hanging over the forehead (= part of the face above the eyes) that is cut shorter than the rest of the hair

layer (n): a level of material, such as a type of rock or gas, that is different from the material above or below it, or a thin sheet of a substance

turtle-乌龟

turtleneck (n): a high, round collar that folds over on itself and covers the neck, or a piece of clothing with this type of collar

tenant (n):房客;租户;佃户 a person who pays rent for the use of a room, building, land, etc. to the person who owns it
E.g.: They had evicted their tenants for non-payment of rent.

E.g.: The decorating was done by a previous tenant.
装修是一位前房客搞的。

The tenant left the apartment before the end of the contract, which means that they broke the contract房客在合同结束前离开了公寓,这意味着他们违反了合同

the outskirts (n): the areas that form the edge of a town or city

E.g.: The factory is in/on the outskirts of New Delhi.

country (n): land that is not in towns, cities, or industrial areas and is either used for farming or left in its natural condition

New Zealander (n): a person from New Zealand

Caucasian (adj): belonging to the races of people who have skin that is of a pale colour

E.g.: The chief suspect for the robbery is a Caucasian male.

E.g.: My aunt’s husband is a Caucasian New Zealander

photograph (v): to take a picture using a camera

E.g.: I prefer photographing people rather than places.

cousin/fist cousin (n): a child of a person’s aunt or uncle, or, more generally, a distant (= not close) relation
堂(或表)兄弟;堂(或表)姐妹;远房亲戚
E.g.: My brother’s wife and I both had babies around the same time, so the cousins are very close in age.
我嫂子和我差不多同时生了孩子,因此这对表兄妹年纪相仿。

second cousin (n): any person who is a child of a cousin of your mother or father
