Vocabulary

I intended on/originally planned on going to BJ

pretend – to behave as though something is true even though it’s not

eg. He pretended to not know anything about the incident.

eg. She’s not really hurt – she’s just pretending.

cautious – someone who avoids taking risks 谨慎的

eg. Most cautious people would avoid going outside this year.

eg. My mother is a cautious driver.

they still have some complaints – to say something is wrong or bad

they always complain about something when I come home

my attitude is not very good/polite/I would give them a bad attitude 

I’m the odd one out – the minority

government-owned/state-owned company

government official/employee 

Grammar

*when talking about general things, you use the plural 

ex. Most Chinese parents expect their children to be married at around 30.

ex. Children these days spend a lot of time on the phone.

much – uncountable

ex. much time/water/money/stress

many – countable

ex. many people/trips/cars/jobs

Speaking exercise

I pretend to go to BJ this weekend.

She’s a little 谨慎.

It’s a fast lunch because I wake up late I think.

I’ve lost the topic with them.

Traditional parents think young girl like me don’t need to waste any time at work. But most traditional parents, especially Chinese parents think shouldn’t spend too much time working.

They’re used for my job that my job is busy.

They’re too much traditional.

But, if you need to have OT time for work or you need to have so much business trips, they don’t think it’s okay I think.

All my friends their parents are very support them.

I don’t have/share any common topics with them.

Traditional parents think young girls like me don’t need to waste any time at work. But, most traditional parents, especially Chinese parents think girls shouldn’t spend too much time at work/shouldn’t be career-oriented. 

They’re used to my job and know that I’m busy with work. 

They’re too traditional.  

But, if you need to OT time at work or if you need to go on many business trips then they don’t think it’s okay I think. 

All of my friends’ parents are very supportive of them.
