lie: to tell something that is not true

eg. Don’t trust her – she’s lying.

eg. I suspect that she’s lying all this time.

tell a lie/to tell lies/make up a lie/lies

white lie: harmless lie

harmful: causing damage or injury 伤害，损害，危害

eg. She didn’t mean to say harmful things to him.

eg. You should reconsider your actions – they may be harmful to others.

get away with sth: not be caught for doing something bad

to get caught/to be found by sbd/others

unintentionally do sth/tell lies

comfort: to make someone feel better

eg. I don’t like it when my friend comforts me.

eg. She prefers to wait for her husband to comfort her after an argument.

leave you/me alone – let me be by myself

cover-up – to hide a crime/mistake from others

beforehand – earlier

ex. You should warn him beforehand otherwise he won’t be prepared for this.

bad/malicious -> really really bad

White lies maybe they don’t want to hurt other people’s feelings.

They don’t want them to know their real intention. If they know it’s bad then I think it’s a really bad thing.

They want to get more opportunity, for example, promotion and more choice. They are afraid that others will get better than them.

If someone made a lie to cover up his mistake, I think if they just cover his mistake, I can accept it. But, some people they want to cover their mistake, they will hurt others, then it’s a problem.

Their feeling is not very strong, if they tell them the truth, they cannot accept the fact or they will be hurt by the true.

Revised: 

For white lies, I think they don’t want to hurt other people’s feelings.

They don’t want others to know their real/truth intention. If they know it’s bad beforehand then I think it’s really malicious. 

They want to get/find more opportunities, for example, to receive a promotion or go after more choices. They are afraid/fear that others will overtake/replace them.

If someone made up/told a lie to cover up his mistake, I think if it’s just cover up his mistake then I can accept it. But, some for some people, they want to cover up their mistakes so they will hurt others. Then it’s a problem.

For some people, they’re emotionally sensitive so if you tell them the truth, they won’t be able to accept the fact or they will be hurt by the truth.
