Speaking exercise

Embarrassing thing happened this morning. I have a friend living in Chongqing, she came back to Shanghai this week, she needs to adjust her teeth, she brought some fried dough twists. So we met this morning on her way to the airport. The underground station we met is nearby my home. I just put my jacket and brushed my teeth, and take the phone which is only 40 percent. When I stepped down the stairs , my phone suddenly off. When I restart my phone, it only remained 3-5 seconds and turned off again. So I can’t get in touch with my friends to tell the detail position I stand. So I walked to the service center to ask help, they said they don’t have charge for my phone, and they also can’t borrow their personal cell phone to me. I can’t remember the phone number of my friend. I don’t want to make trouble with my friend, because she’s on her way to the airport. I need to record the number from reading 5 seconds from my cell phone. Fortunately I called her with another phone in the station.

Revised

Something embarrassing happened this morning. I have a friend who came back to Shanghai this week, she needed to adjust/correct her teeth, she brought some fried dough twists for me. So we met this morning on her way to the airport. The underground station was nearby my home. I just put on my jacket and brushed my teeth, and took/brought the phone that’s only 40 percent. When I stepped down the stairs , my phone suddenly turned off. When I restarted my phone, it was on for 3-5 seconds and turned off again. So I couldn’t get in touch with my friends to tell her about my location. I walked to the service center to ask for help, they said they don’t have a charger for my phone, and they also can’t lend their personal cell phone to me. I can’t remember the phone number of my friend. I don’t want to cause trouble with my friend, because she’s on her way to the airport. I had to record the number from reading 5 seconds from my cell phone. Fortunately I called her with another phone in the station.

New Zealand to ban foreign home buyers

New Zealand has announced a ban on foreigners buying houses. It said the ban would begin in early 2018. The measure is to tackle the country’s housing crisis. For the past decades, overseas buyers have been buying houses as investments or for holiday homes. This has increased demand for homes, which has seen house prices rise. Prices have risen by more than 50 per cent in the last decade. New Zealanders are angry about the inflated prices they have to pay to buy a home. Many citizens have simply been priced out of the market and cannot afford to get on the housing ladder.

The government is determined to end overseas investment increasing house prices. It wants to make it easier for Kiwis to buy their first home. It said: “We are stopping foreign speculators buying houses and driving up prices. Kiwis should not be outbid like this.” Overseas investors will still be able to buy land. The government said the changes would not stop non-citizens from buying residential land. It stated: “Our position has always been that if you’re adding to supply…then you will be able to build.” It hopes the ban will “take some of the heat” out of the property market.
