Speaking exercise

I’m a UI desinger in the product team. I’m responsible for our brand website and app. Due to the lacking of designers/talents, we have to attend meetings, reply emails, and do things that are out of our work range/ responsibilities. Most of our colleagues are British, so when I join the meetings with some native speakers, if they speak too quickly, I cannot follow them. If the meeting concerns/is related to my upcoming task, maybe I need to ask them to repeat/rephrase their question.

I’m sorry, I didn’t understand. Could you rephrase it?

I beg your pardon?

I’m sorry?

Sorry the reception was bad, could you repeat what you just said?

Sorry I had bad signal/ bad reception, it was lagging.

Writing exercise

Hi Jason,

Hope you had a good weekend.

As we discussed last Friday, I should complete the design task this week.

Unfortunately, an urgent project begins. I have to be in charge of it due to the shortage of resource.
Considering my existing workload, I’m afraid I would not be able to deliver it on time.

It would be great if you could postpone the deadline or look for a replacement.

I’m looking forward to hearing your response.

Best Wishes,
Lana

Revised

Hi Jason,

Hope you had a good weekend.

As we discussed last Friday, the design task should be completed by this week.

Unfortunately, an urgent project came up. I have to be in charge of it due to the shortage of resource.
Considering my existing workload, I’m afraid I would not be able to deliver it on time.

Sorry about the inconvenience. Please kindly look for another designer to complete the task as I would be too caught up with the in-house project.

Thank you for your understanding! Apologies again for the inconvenience/ prompt notice.

Best Wishes,
Lana
