Grammar

Have you been to Northern Thailand before ?

No, I have never been to Northern Thailand. Phi Phi Island is in Southern Thailand, it’s not in the North. 

Verb Tenses – active, past, present, past or future, conditional, (Was, Is, being, have been) 

If I follow the map I will still make some mistakes. = future conditional tense

If I followed the map incorrectly, it means I made a mistake. = the simple past tense

If I followed the map but arrived at the wrong destination, it means that I had made a mistake in entering the address. = the past within the past tense (proper name?) 

—–> In English its okay to mix the verb tenses, in order to describe time in the situation. (traveling around the timeline)


Its too bad —-> I have a bad feeling about this …

—–> My geography skills are not very advanced.

—–> Its Geography is  not my strength, its my weakness.

——> Speaking is not my strength, its my weakness.

——-> Vocabulary is my strength,  but grammar is my weakness.       = make a comparison.


Vocabulary

Geography = The study of spaces, using maps and coordinates to define the physical earth 地理

How many cities in Northern Thailand? There is more countryside in Northern Thailand than City.

Major Cities – more than 1 million people

Towns– 50,000 – 1 million

villages – less than 10,000

Northern – bei

Southern-  nan

Western – xie

Eastern – dong

Urban – 城市 – a city environment

Where is Hangzhou in relationship to Shanghai? 

Hangzhou is in the south of Shanghai. —-> Hangzhou is south of Shanghai.

Where is Thailand in relationship to China?

Thailand is eastern south of China. ——> Thailand is South of mainland China.

-ern to describe inside of a place …..

ex. We are talking about the Hai city. Where is Pudong? Pudong is the eastern half

to cut in half = The Huangpu River cuts Shanghai in half ! 

ex. Can we please we share your cake? Yes, we can cut the cake in half.

sense of direction 方向感  ” I have a bad sense of direction” 😀 PERFECT ! “How is your sense of direction?” 🙁


Context – 上下文

ex. I can understand this sentence according to the context. contest  

ex. When you read a book, reading one page gives you a contextual example of what is happening in the entire story.

Situational Example: Thea walks up to her friends, her friends are standing around and laughing. “What’s so funny? Why are you guys laughing?” “….Let me tell you the context. We are laughing because….”

  • “Let us tell you the context / the reason as to why everyone is laughing”

Tomorrow I will go to the Putuo Mountain temple to worship Buddha and pray for my health.
