2018 Chinese Valentine’s Day is on 17th August, TODAY! It’s referred to Qixi(七夕) in Chinese, which means the 7th night of 7th month in lunar calendar.

When I was child, I’d been told this romantic and tragic fairy tale. This love story is about the 7th daughter of Emperor of Heaven and the poor cowherd guy. One day all of 7 daughters of Emperor came down to the human world and took a bath in there. The cowherd, who was passing by there, as soon as saw the 7th daugther and fell in love with her at first sight. To keep her from going back to the Heaven, he took away her fairy clothes secretly and told her that he wouldn’t return her clother unless she gets married with him. (what a thief!) The good thing is that she also had a feeling with him so that she happily agreed to be his wife and stayed in the human world with him.

However, once the Emperor found that his 7th daughter got marrid with the human cowherd, he immediately brought her back to the Heaven. He only allowed them to see each other once of a year, in the evening of the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. For this sad couple, magpies fly to make a bridge in the sky every Qixi and support them to meet safely. That’s why there are less magpies on the day of Qixi, people said.

Favorite holiday

My favorite holiday is Korean new years day. We exchange some words about good luck, and also elders give envelopes with money to younger generation. Its one of the biggest holidays in Korea , and all the families dine together. Its good to catch to catch up with relatives. We get three days off, we get the day before and after off. Another traditional thing that korean families do, is to get food ready for ancient people.
