Vocabulary

Gems – a shiny rock that is often used to make jewelry
eg. The below are all types of gems and my favorite gem is a ruby.

Emerald – a green gem See the source image

Sapphire – a blue gem

Ruby – a red gem

Diamond – a clear color stone often on a ring when I guy proposes to a girl/ or on other jewelry

Clay – 粘土

Counterpart – one half of something that goes with the other half
eg. Many words have a counterpart opposite that go together like hot/cold, big/small

Urban –  a large town, or city which is the opposite of rural

City slicker – someone who can’t be detached from city life
eg. Joan is a city slicker because they love the urban conveniences

Drill –  a tool for making a hole  See the source image
eg. The dentist used a dental drill to fix my teeth.
eg. I cried when I saw the dentist pull out his drill.

Needle – See the source image
Shot/vaccination –
using a needle to give someone medicine to prevent them from getting sick
eg. The doctor gave me 2 shots/vaccinations to keep me from catching the flu

Anesthetic – something that prevents pain (usually during surgery)

Filling – something put in your tooth to fix a hole
Cavity – a hole in a tooth
eg. Because I got a cavity in my tooth, I needed to get a filling.

He ate it right in front of me! – when someone eats something in front of you and you really want it
eg. The doctor told me I couldn’t eat sugar but my friend bought ice cream and ate it right in front of me!

Braces – something the dentist puts on your teeth to straighten them.

Allergies – 过敏


Grammar

I got a cold = I caught a cold (both can be used to talk about getting sick)

Hospital vs clinic –> Hospital is very large and clinic is smaller.

Order –> something to be brought to you
booked –> something has been reserved for you
filled –> some has no space left
