15 common English idioms and phrases with their meaning


Vocabulary

fist – to close your hand and make it a ball (as if you were going to punch someone)

Jibberish – words that have meaning together

appreciate/grateful – happy and thankful

How does that sound? – is that okay?
Sounds great! – its great

letters – a, b, c, , d, e (parts of the alphabet)

What do you do? – whats your job?

I’m just about to …. – an action is just about to take place (something will happen right after this statement.
eg. I’m about to go and pick up some coffee. Do you want anything?

I just (verb) (noun) … – something has just finished and in the middle of another action
eg. I just left the office and heading home now.

Insult – to say something mean, rude, disrespectful…

Life is short – don’t wait to do stuff (don’t wait until tomorrow a certain time in the future)

Make the most of it – Things are not always perfect, but enjoy as much of it as you can.
