Vocabulary

Vaccine/Vaccination- a type of medicine that makes us immune to disease

e.g. Merck Frost produces a vaccine for the HPV virus, it’s mainly for women.

Scenario- A fake situation or example that we use to make someone think of something, like losing your passport

e.g. What would you do in the case of the following scenario: you lose your passport while traveling abroad.

Embassy- The government offices that represent a country abroad.

e.g. If you lose your passport abroad, you will have to go to the embassy.

Appetizers- Smaller pieces of food that you are supposed to eat while waiting for your main course/dish.

e.g. In America, the appetizers are so big that by the time you finish them, you aren’t hungry anymore.

Tap- A small piece of metal with handles that water or other liquid comes out from

e.g. Whenever I leave home, I’m always afraid I left the tap on.

Ordering water at a restaurant- Flat or Sparkling (Carbonated) Water

Flat water is just normal tap water, if you want bottled water, you’ll have to ask for it.

Sparkling water is water with bubbles in it, it’s carbonated.

Allergies/Allergic- (guo min) When you can’t eat or touch something because it will get you very sick.

e.g. In America, many children have a peanut allergy OR many children are allergic to peanuts.
