Vocabulary

Circadian Rhythm- The kind of pattern that is associated  or has to do with human’s sleep and wake cycles.

e.g.  If you don’t have a stable sleep pattern, your circadian rhythm can really suffer.

Jet lag- (shicha) when you travel to a country with a different time zone and you can’t fall asleep.

e.g. Whenever I go back to Canada, I really suffer from jet lag for the first few days.

Melatonin- A kind of hormone (jisu) that helps us keep a normal sleep cycle.

e.g. Whenever I travel, I usually bring some melatonin with me in case of jet lag.

Mimic-Something that copies something else, or shares very very similar characteristics.

e.g. People usually don’t like it when you start to mimic them or their behavior. It can quickly become annoying.

Lizard-  A kind of amphibian/animal that is like a snake but has four legs, and a tail.

e.g. My mom hates lizards, if she sees one she will scream.

Chameleon- A kind of lizard that can change the color of its skin to disappear, can also be used to describe anyone who is good at hiding their appearance.

e.g. Chameleons are very interesting to scientists because we can understand how colors can change in living things.

Vanish- Same meaning as disappear.

e.g. One day I came home and I found that my kitchen table had vanished!

Synonym-  Words that are different but have a very similar meaning. (beautiful, handsome, pretty)

e.g. In English, it’s often good to learn many synonyms as people like to use different ones.

Cinnamon- (rou gui) a kind of spice used in China and the West.

e.g. I really like to eat bananas with cinnamon
