Write a short journalistic piece about the war in Syria

Vocabulary

Junkie-someone who is addicted to drugs BUT we use it to describe other addictions as well.

e.g. That person is a junkie, all they do is smoke weed.

Adrenaline- A hormone/chemical your brain lets out when you get scared.
Adrenaline junkie, bungee jumping, skydiving, parkour, alligator wrestling.

e.g. I often get an adrenaline rush when I drive fast.

News Junkie: Like junkie, but someone who is addicted to reading news.

Impending: Something that will happen but has not happened yet.

e.g. The President has an impending visit to Korea this week.

Pending: A decision waiting more information to be finalized.

e.g. Your university application status is pending, it is still under review.

Infuriate: To make someone very mad.

e.g. My little brother infuriates me sometimes.

Rebellion: When people refuse to cooperate with an authority or government, and push back against them.

e.g. The French rebellion ended with the King having his head cut off.

Death toll: Number of people who died in a conflict or elsewhere.

e.g. The death toll in Syria has reached 400,000 to date.

Civilians: People who are not military. Everyday citizens.

e.g. Most of the people who die in war are usually civilians.

Thwart:  To stop someone from completing their plans.

e.g. The security forces thwarted the terrorists from setting off a bomb.
