Vocabulary
Dreaming – 发呆
E.g – I was caught dreaming during my boring English class.
Compass – 指南针
E.g – For the cross country run, we were given a compass to help lead the day.
North - 北
South - 南
East - 东
West - 西
Shrimp – 虾
E.g-Shrimp is my favorite seafood.
Vanilla -香草
E.g- Vanilla ice cream is one of my favorite.
Bored – when you don’t like what you are watching, listening to, reading, etc.; how you feel
Boring – what makes you feel bored; the thing
Annoy – when someone does something that you don’t like and you want to stop 惹恼
e.g. The kid that is shouting on the bus is very annoying.
Seaweed – a plant that grows in the ocean 海藻
e.g. I think that lots of seafood just tastes like seaweed, and I don’t like them very much.
Field Day – a day of school when you don’t have class, but you have lots of games and activities outside
Field Trip – a day of school when you don’t have class, but you travel somewhere instead
See – the ability to use your eyes, do your eyes work?; is something in a place where you can see it?
e.g. Can you see the color blue?
e.g. Can you see the blue car over there?
Look – to move your eyes towards something
e.g. Look over here!
Watch – to look at for a long time
e.g. I am going to watch a movie (I’m going to look in the direction of my TV for a long time)
Boarding School – a school that you live at, where you have a room with a bed
e.g. Amber attends a boarding school where she stays during the week, but then goes home on the weekend.
Diary – something you write in every day talking about what you do and what you feel;
Journal – something you write your thoughts in
— A journal is more about thinking and less about feeling. Feeling is something that is sometimes “weak”
Sissy – someone who is weak
Jerk – someone who is mean
Bully – a kid who hurts others and is mean
Clear up – when you think that someone didn’t understand you and you want to make sure that they do understand you; to make something 清楚
Crazy – when someone does things that are hard to understand 疯狂
e.g. Why are you bungee jumping? Are you crazy?
e.g. Why are you putting ketchup on that hot dog? Are you crazy?
Ketchup – a sauce made of tomatoes 番茄酱
Pickle – 腌黄瓜
Straight – like a line 直线,直
To get something straight – to make sure that someone understands something correctly
e.g. (For someone else:) I want to get something straight. I did not eat your piece of cake!
e.g. (For yourself:) I want to get something straight. Did you eat my piece of cake?
Grammar
When you have two words that describe how you feel and what makes you feel that way, how you feel uses “-ed” (person) and what makes you feel that way uses “-ing” (thing)
e.g. Bored/boring, annoyed/annoying, tired/tiring
— Remember this because “thing” has “ing” in it.
My father like eat very much – My father really likes to eat this
— I think you can only use “very much” about people
We see film on Monday – we watch a film on Monday
Speaking exercise
It’s a school game. I think it’s two hour, and it’s so tired. I run this way and make a kite and I go out this way. We make a kite and fly it, the kite fly very high. I run one day, just next week. After that we climb the mountain. At last and we go back school.
