2 Men and an Escalator

Somebody filmed on camera two elderly Polish men going up an escalator at a shopping centre the wrong way. They decided to go for a hit after an announcement of free burgers.

A large group of people watched as both of them stumbled and fell on the escalator. They eventually made it to the top and received cheers from the crowd. Let’s just hope that the painful climb was worth it.

Difficult words: announcement (saying something officially to people), stumble (trip or lose balance).

Dolphin Saves a Woman’s Phone

A lady on holiday in the Bahamas never expected to see her phone again when she dropped it into the ocean. However, as she was at a dolphin encounter, a dolphin named Cacique retrieved the phone from the seabed in moments.

Unfortunately, the tourist’s iPhone was not waterproof and the brisk rescue mission was in vain.

Difficult words: retrieve (to find something and bring it back), brisk (quick), in vain (without success).

Speaking exercise

What do you think about people who look at their phones while walking?

I think it’s dangerous but sometimes I also do that. Because when you try to focus yourself on the phone you might not notie the people and cars around you it might ause some unexpected thing ahppen. like fall into some hole or fall down the steps. It’s really dangerous. If I know her, I will try to catch her but a stranger, maybe I will not do anything. A stranger, in China current social maybe not good environment for helping stranger. I”m not sure whether you heard the news long ago about maybe someone help an older woman but be suited/go to the court.

…(What would you do if the person next to you fell?) If I know her, I will try to catch her but a stranger, maybe I will not do anything. With a stranger in China‘s current social situation maybe it’s not a good environment to help strangers. I’m not sure whether you heard the news long ago about someone who helped an older woman but was sued…
