Writing exercise

As for me, big changes means a negation of all the previous hard work. If this happens, more energy would be spent, which means less efficient.

Be practical in our personal relationships makes us more relatable. Imagine a wife who idealizes her husband, or a mother who overestimates her child. These unrealistic expectations in personal relationships often cause serious troubles such as frustrations, misunderstandings and break-ups. If, however, we are more practical in dealing with personal relationships, we would be more objective, considerate and understanding, and thus live in harmony and happiness.

From those two aspects, I think it is better for us to be more practical. Admittedly, the moon is beautiful, but it is for admiration only. We should spend more time on practical things and less on unrealistic ones. After all, yesterday is history; tomorrow is mystery; only today is a gift; that’s why it is called present.

As for me, big changes means a negation of all the previous hard work. If this happens, I would have to spend more energy, which means decreased efficiency.

Being practical in our personal relationships makes us more relatable. Imagine a wife who idealizes her husband, or a mother who overestimates her child’s academic performance. These unrealistic expectations in personal relationships often can cause/can lead to serious troubles such as frustrations/confrontations, misunderstandings and break-ups. If, however, we are more practical in dealing with personal relationships, we would be more objective, considerate and understanding. These lead to a life in harmony and happiness.

To be efficient and relatable, we should first be practical. Admittedly, the moon is beautiful, but only for admiration, not real-life pursuit. We should spend more time on practical things and less on unrealistic ones. After all, yesterday is history; tomorrow is mystery; only today is a gift; that’s why it is called the present.

A visit to Yunnan
During the National Day holiday in 2018, I travelled to Yunnan province. Freed from the heavy workload, I really had a good time there. I visited some famous scenic spots, among which Hu Tiao Xia impressed me most.

Hu Tiao Xia, literally translated as “Tiger Leaping Gorge”. Stories are told that when Jinsha River is in dry season, tigers will leap off the mountains, perhaps across the gorge. When I visited there, it was late summer. Water rushed through the gorge, forming a magnificent vision/sight/view/scene/world. As part of the Yunnan government’s policy to protect/preserve the nature, mountains there are not over-exploited, offering good opportunities to true explorers/adventurists. A long bridge is built above Jinsha River between two mountains. At the time, those who are brave enough/I saw some brave foreigners were walking and sitting on the bridge. But I didn’t dare! From afar, the bridge seemed like a fine line, moving slightly/dancing in accordance with to the rhythm of water. I couldn’t tell whether the mountains or the water should take credit for the spectacle./couldn’t tell which is the more spectacular – the mountains or the water- and missing either would be a huge loss!

In addition to/To complement this gorgeous/fantastic view of waters and gorges, there is also the most steep ladder I have ever seen. Climbing the first several steps was effortless. But once I reached the middle, I couldn’t move. Being tired/lack of stamina was one thing, and fright/fear was the other. I wanted to relax my arms and legs but I knew that if I did, I would fall! Clenching my teeth, I struggled on. When I finally reached the top of the ladder, I felt so dizzy that I didn’t even try to look back.

Hu Tiao Xia, literally translated as “Tiger Leaping Gorge”. The unusually picturesque/literal name comes from a local story that when Jinsha River is in dry season, tigers will leap off the mountains, perhaps across the gorge. When I visited there, it was late summer. Water rushed through the gorge, forming a magnificent picture. To well protect the nature, mountains there are not over-exploited, offering good opportunities to those who want a true adventure. A long bridge is built above Jinsha River between two mountains. At the time, a couple of really bold people were walking and sitting on the bridge. But I didn’t dare! Looked afar, the bridge seemed like a fine line, moving slightly in accordance with/ in response to the rhythm of water. I couldn’t tell whether the mountains or the water should take credit for the spectacular. Perhaps both. Missing either part would be a huge loss!

Besides the waters and gorges, there is also a most steep ladder. Climbing the first several steps was effortless. But once I came to the middle of the ladder, I couldn’t move on. Tiredness was one thing, and fright was the other. I wanted to relax my arms and legs but I knew if I did, I would fall! Clenching my teeth, I struggled on.
