Q: Did you read anything interesting in the news? Tell me about it.
A: It’s actually not …It’s about cleaning up the city and something about personal hygiene. In the beginning of this article, the author introduced a novel Dickinson. In his book, hygiene seemed to be a symbol of class, only the upper-class people washed their hands very often, keep their personal hygiene. And leaders wouldn’t pay much attention to the cleanness of the whole city esp the lower class people. So there was a high chance that some diseases would be transmitted person-to-person. There was a very serious disease at that time, so many people died because of the plague. Without enough human force, there would be no development of the economy. From then on, the govt had been paying attention to cleaning up the whole city. That reminds me of a recent piece of news, that you should never put a price tag on human life, esp during the pandemic. There was a contraction between DT and the NY mayor. He said sth to fight against DT’s words on putting a price on human lives. And comparing this with China/what the leaders are doing in China, I think Chinese leaders did a perfect job. Perhaps some other people would say that the Chinese govt always say big words and don’t take action – it is too idealistic – but from my perspective, I believe how I’m doing right now. So I think I am lucky to be a Chinese.
