constructive criticism: neg comments that make us better

It’s hard to say. Each professor has the area he excels at. But I think the best one, is he who can combine the academic with the practical. There was my college teacher, she was also a professor. Academically, she taught her class well and we learnt so much knowledge from her, in her class. But after class, she would give us translation work…Not like other teachers who just gave their students the exercise on their books to translate that literally, she would ask you to practice in real time. And there was once an interpretation teacher, she would give us some materials for us to interpret. That’s how we can keep pace with the news. I think especially if you’re an Eng major, there’s a high chance it’s an Eng teacher. Sometimes, what you learn in school would be outdated after your graduation, so it’s up to us to update our knowledge. How do we do that? To practice – to put what we learn to actual use. I think the best professor would help his students to do that.

It’s hard to say. Each professor has a subject of expertise/Every professor has his own style of teaching that works for different students/Every professor is strong/great in his own way. (good -> but I think ___ is best/ not different -> best)But I think the best one, is a prof who can combine the academic with the practical. I had a very good professor in college. Academically, she taught her class well and we learnt so much from her in class. But after class/outside of the classroom, she would give us practical translation work…Unlike other teachers who just gave their students the textbook exercises for literal translation, she would ask us to practice in real time. I had another interpretation teacher, who would ask to interpret current events/news. That’s how we kept pace with the current events/news/updated. To be an Eng teacher, you need to combine the academic with the practical. Sometimes, what you learn in school would be outdated after your graduation, so it’s up to us to update our knowledge after school. How do we do that? By practicing – to put what we learn to actual use. I think the best professor would help his students do that./with that.

I think especially if you’re an Eng major, there’s a high chance it’s an Eng teacher.
I think that especially as Eng majors, most of us are very likely/would probably become future Eng teachers.

Q: How do you deal with criticism?

Perhaps at first, I would be kind of outraged and awkward, probably. I couldn’t sleep and feel if I was really that bad.. Once I come to realize that what that person said was correct, I would change myself. It is a little bit difficult of course, but these years, especially after I have joined the work force. I have been more willing to accept constructive criticism. Because my boyfriend always said that you need to lose weight. After a month running, I gave up and fill that time with something else. I won’t keep on. ABout 3 or 4 years ago, when I was first teaching English, a teacher trained me. At that time, I was showing her an English lesson to teach very little kids. There should’ve been more games in class, but I didn’t have many games in my class. The teacher told me that the class might not attract the /arouse the student’s interest. She showed me some methods, and I was very grateful for her suggestion. Later on, I searched on the internet about more games, since then, I learned that the games are very important in class if you want to teach English to the very little kids. Through teaching, I think I’ve changed a lot. I changed my personality a little bit. Beore I was an Eng teacher, I was pretty serious. When chatting with somebody on wechat, I won’t use “a , o” I would just tell them the most important thing. Since I became an Eng teacher, I began to talk to them in the tone that they would like, and send some msgs with … showing that I’m a nice person. This behavior changed my personality. I think it’s a good thing because I tried to be more open in the class. Openness is an important factor for an Eng teacher, and changing, not do the same thing.

You’re not angry at all.

Q: What impressed you the most when you were at the university?
A: I think it’s the learning atmosphere there. This university is not the first-tier type. It is just an ordinary one. But it still belongs to the end of the first-tier type. Students there study very hard and the university will offer a vacant classroom for us to study on our own. And since it is the end of the first class, most students would think of studying further, so they spent a lot of time studying, not dating or doing anything that is not related to their studies. As it is a railway station, it is more like a marshall one, and we have to get up at half past six to run on weekdays. Even though it sounds a bit crazy, it helped us to be more strong-willed. And we developed a habit of getting up early everyday. After all these years of working, I think health and your inner mind are the two most important things on a person. In this/my university, helped us to build both of them, not only enrich our mind but also build our body.
