Vocabulary

Slide (v/n): 1- to (cause to) move easily and without interruption over a surface. 2- a structure for children to play on which has a slope for them to slide down and usually a set of steps leading up to the slope.
E.g.: When I was little I used to like sliding on the polished floor in my socks.
E.g.: My daughter loves playing on the slide.

Merry-go-round / Carousel (n): 1- a large machine that turns round and has wooden or plastic animals or vehicles on which children ride. 2- ę—‹č½¬ęœØ马
E.g.: She wanted to go on the merry-go-round, but it was already closed.

Theme park (n): 1- a large permanent area for public entertainment, with entertaining activities and big machines to ride on or play games on, restaurants, etc., sometimes all connected with a single subject.
E.g.: Shanghai Disneyland is Shanghai’s largest theme park.

Playground (n): 1- an area designed for children to play in outside, especially at a school or in a park.
E.g.: Yesterday the weather was really good, so I took my daughter to the playground.

Suicide (n): 1- the act of killing yourself intentionally, or a person who has done this.
E.g.: He tried to commit suicide by jumping off a building.

Sane (adj): 1- having a healthy mind and not mentally ill.
E.g.: In the doctor’s opinion he was sane at the time of the accident.

Trap (n/v): 1- a device or hole for catching animals or people and preventing their escape. 2- a dangerous or unpleasant situation which you have got into and from which it is difficult or impossible to escape. 3- to catch an animal in a trap.
E.g.: The fox got its foot caught in a trap.
E.g.: She’s too smart to fall into the trap of working without pay.
E.g.: She survived in the forest by eating fruits and trapping small animals and birds.

Trapped (adj): 1- unable to move or escape from a place or situation:
E.g.: The two men died when they were trapped in a burning building.
E.g.:Ā He feltĀ trapped in theirĀ unhappy relationship.

Writing exercise

Original:

A stripling(young people) died in the Nanjing railway station on March 28th. The news reported that person waited in a wrong platform, He want ran through the rail to the right one. When he distance the train under 10 meters, he didnā€™t stop and take his bag ran to the platform. Thatā€™s horrible!!!
Finally, he couldnā€™t climbed the platform and he was locked from the waist down between the train and platform, the distance is very short.
When the save team arrived that he wasnā€™t die and turned his waist up(in the top half of body).in the end, they couldnā€™t saved him.
Unbelievable!!! Why did he thinking at that time? He didnā€™t feel dangerous and responsibility to take care of himself?

A 30 year old man died in the Nanjing railway station on March 28th. The news reported that theĀ person waited on theĀ wrong platform. He wanted to runĀ across the tracks to the right one. When he was 10 meters fromĀ the train, he didnā€™t stop but rather tookĀ his bag and ran to try to jump onto the platform. So horrible!!! Finally, he wasn’t able toĀ climb the platform and he was trappedĀ from the waist down in the narrow space between the train and platform.
When the paramedics arrived he was still alive and had turned his upper body around.Ā In the end, they couldnā€™t save him.
Unbelievable!!! WhatĀ wasĀ he thinking? Didnā€™t he feel the danger and responsibility to take care of himself?
