During the Spring Festival, the first Chinese science fiction movie “The Wandering Earth” hit screens all over the country and broke the first-weekend box office record. After much heated debate, LiuCiXin —the writer of the original novel with the same name — accepted a CCTV interview to answer the internet’s most recent questions.

The question was asked: “How can we develop the Chinese science fiction film industry in the future?” LiuCiXin gave three recommendations from his perspective. Firstly, he thinks that the topics covered by science fiction films shouldn’t be limited. In his opinion, the government should cultivate a more open environment. Secondly, he recommended that more science fiction film systems should be established to further develop the industry. Finally, brilliant writers, of both scripts and novels, should be encouraged to create more masterpieces.
