Bacani, a filipino who worked as domestic helper in Hongkong, also a photographer who recorded the life status of migrant workers when work off.Through her white and black documentary photographs, she won the fellowship of Magnum Foundation and may had a chance leaving her job for good to pursuit her dream in New York .
Born in a poor family, Bacani drop out of school when she was 19 so that her brother and sister can keep studying. She worked in a affluent Hongkong family, made breakfast, babysat children and cleaned house to make a life, sent money for her family every month.
She loaned form her boss to buy a camera, wandered the street and photoed every night when worked off, told the story of thousands of Hongkong migrant workers like her.It’s a bittersweet process to be a photojournalist, she said, no stable incomes, no clear future, but full of the supports and encourages form her parents and siblings.
