There is a special kind of occupation in China called daigou. People who do this job don’t work for any company and most of them are completely individual.
Basically the way how they work is that they fly to another country, which probably might be Korea, America or some European countries, then they go buy a bunch of duty free goods and bring them back to china. They will sell those stuff to buyers after rising a little price of them. People usually prefer to purchase luxury, cosmetics and milk powder by daigou, because they believe they can save a lot of money and the quality can be guaranteed.
Most of these sellers start their business on wechat. They usually buy for their friends or relatives at the beginning, then they will ask their customers to advertise for them on their wechat by giving them some benefits, such as delivering goods to them for free or giving them samples.
Nowadays there’s a new group of people having been joining to this market, overseas students, who have the natural strengths that they can save the tickets money and go shopping more often.
This kind of purchasing mode has been somewhat impacting our own local market, so our government issued a few strict policies against it. The customs follow the rules by detecting people’s luggages more carefully or checking on their visa status to see if they come back and forth to some certain countries too often.
Generally speaking, it’s a little bit harder to be a daigou than before.
