    Speaking

I have discussed that with my mom, should we help my son to practice eating food. We think even without practice,  he will learn that, but we will be happy with our cleaning environment. Sometimes my mom take him outside and let him eat by himself. We also feel guilty about that, because it’s not good manner. For example, I didn’t practice when I was small, but I can eat now, every child will learn that. We are training him to throw a ball, but he cannot throw it very far away.

    Reading

    https://www.enfamily.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=968030

It’s nice to go out for a meal at a restaurant. But what makes it extra special – apart from the food – is to receive attentive service from the staff. What can leave a bad taste in your mouth, though, is to be handed the bill and see that a service charge has been added. You’re faced with the dilemma of deciding to pay it, and whether you should add a tip on top.

Putting your hand in your pocketto reward good service is a personal choice, but it also depends on where you are in the world. What is the norm in one city is not necessarily the norm in another. In some places a tip is expected; but in others, good service should be expected and ought to be included in the price.

Adding an optional service charge to your bill certainly makes paying a tip less awkward because there’s no need to calculate the amount. But even though it’s not compulsory, you sometimes feel obliged to pay it. In the UK, where people tend to be too polite to complain, they might pay the service charge despite quietly complaining that the service they received was not up to scratch!

Choosing your own amount to tip may seem fairer, but should you pay it in cash or add it on to a credit card payment? And who will be the recipient? If we are to pay extra, we want to know it goes to the person who deserves it and that it’s not used as an alternative to paying someone a proper wage. In the UK in 2009, the law was changed after an outcry over staff being paid under the minimum wage and then topping up their wages with money they had earned in tips.

However, in the US it’s still customary to leave a gratuity because tips often make up a substantial part of a server’s income. Restaurant owner William Beckett told the BBC that in New York, for example, “There’s a tacit pressure to tip. But theoretically you (could) just stand up and walk out. You don’t. Everybody tips 20%.”

    Speaking

the people in Shenzhen mostly migrate from other cities there are no local people in Shenzhen and the rhythm of the life is very fast. It depends what kid of work, I think it is fast. Before I taking a holiday I get up at about 7:30 and then I went to work by metro it about 8:30 because I would take about 1h to go to my office and I usually went home at 7 but after that I would keep working by WeChat sometimes it would last till 10 pm.
people will interrupt you to reply. I think this kind of life is a bit too fast I don’t like work overtime I think if my work can ended at 7 it is ok but I really want a true free time without interruption.

mostly we work on WeChat with our agency and they always work until midnight.
Sometimes they send me the proposal at 1am.
Usually we do not send before the deadline if you send it early it means you are capable to more work. So when I give a deadline to other people I will give some buffer but I will say at first there is no buffer.

She always leave home to do some shooting, she has nearly 5 or 6 dogs. I think being her dog is very very happy. They are taken good care. She cooks good food for them and I remember there is one time we need to wait for a long time and during this period she was making a sweater for her dog. She has very good skills to shooting and setting she can make a good pose for his dog and make a good photo.

I remember when Starbucks entered in china. I love the coffee culture. it is the first coffee brand I have touched. I remember Starbucks became my dream company even before I graduated. The reason is that I can drink free coffee everyday because Starbucks is very expensive.

Luckin is the first brand that told Chinese people that coffee should not be so expensive and they made it cheaper. When Luckin established people can get a free coffee the first time and then 5 or 1o the second / third tie and they will send you coupons with heavy discounts but their business model so far they cannot earn… their profit is negative.
Starbucks always say they offer the whole experience including the environment and the service but Luckin target on the person who only need a cup of coffee. What we expect is that the coffee is good quality and value for money and convenience because they focus on the delivery and take away. it satisfies the functional needs more than the emotional needs.

before luckin develop so fast Starbucks  retained its customers via very strong CRM system mechanism.
They have member cards. you pay 88 cny and you can get 3 coupons and there is a series of mechanism.
They do promotions not very often but now they are challenged by the conception in the coffee market and they are forced to do a lot of things. They launched delivery service on Elema.

I think the business is made of customers and the value you paid, So this means how many people come to buy your coffee and how much they pay.in terms of delivery the first thing to do is the fundamental work including the delivery system, efficiency, quality of the coffee and the digital system to make orders and give the customer a good experience. and secondary is how to acquire users. I think at first the aggregator is a good channel to acquire customers. They need to encourage people to make orders on their own apps.

Most the people in Shenzhen mostly migrated / came from other cities there are not many local people in Shenzhen and the rhythm of the life is very fast / it is fast paced. It depends on what kind of work you do, I think it is fast. Before I started a holiday I usually got up at about 7:30 and then I went to work by metro at about 8:30 because I would take about 1h to go to my office and I usually left the office at 7 but after that I would keep working on WeChat sometimes it would last till 10 pm.
People interrupt you to reply to their messages. I think this kind of life is a bit too fast I don’t mind to work overtime I think if my work can end at 7 it is ok but I really want a true free time without interruptions in the week end…

we mostly work on WeChat with our agency and they always work until midnight.
Sometimes they send me the proposal at 1am.
Usually we do not send anything /the file before the deadline if you send it early it means you are capable for more work. So when I give a deadline to other people I will leave/keep some buffer but I will say to them that/ pretend there is no buffer.

She always leaves home to do some shooting, she has nearly 5 or 6 dogs. I think being her dog is very very happy / is a good deal / doesn’t leave much to be desired. / is like paradise. They are taken good care of. She cooks good food for them and I remember there was one time we needed to wait for a long time and during this period she was making a sweater for her dog. She is good at shooting and posing them she can make them pose well together / she can make them stay put and make a good photo.

I remember when Starbucks entered in china. I love the coffee culture. it is the first coffee brand I have touched/experienced. I remember Starbucks became my dream company even before I graduated. The reason is that I can drink free coffee everyday because Starbucks is very expensive.

Luckin is the first brand that told Chinese people that coffee should not be so expensive and they made it cheaper / luckin democratized coffee for the masses.

When Luckin established people could get a free coffee on their first purchase and then the price would increase gradually and they would send you coupons with heavy discounts but their business model so far is not profitable their profit is negative. / it is not sustainable.

Of course, as with everything sounds wonderful there are also something to give up. family is a critical thing to be concern as we have to think about children‘s education and how to take care of our parent who is getting old.

    Reading

Body language plays a vital role in social interaction. A good understanding of this language helps a speaker to express his ideas clearly and accurately while a listener can perceive in the same way. Eye contact is the most obvious you communicate. When you are looking at the other person, you show interest. When you fail to make eye contact, you give impression that the other person is of no importance. Maintain eye contact about 60% of the time in order to look interested, but not aggressive. Facial expression is another form of non-verbal communication. A smile sends a positive message and is appropriate in all but a life and death situation. Smiling adds warmth and an aura of confidence. Others will be more receptive if you remember to check your expression.

Your mouth gives clues, too.Mouth movements, such as pursing your lips and twisting them to one side, can indicate that you are thinking about what you are hearing or that you are holding something back.

abortion is a very controversial topic. Some states in America proposed that it should be illegal for women to get an abortion. What do you think?

I know some countries have some religions ban that. For myself, I think it’s cruel to kill a life, but I understand that women can choose whether to deliver the baby, it depends on their situation to raise. If abortion is regarded as illegal by the government, it will make the women go crazy. Maybe it will raise some new concerns, there may be some illegal hospitals will do that illegally, which maybe can cause them life safety and medical issues. It will be unfair to women. Actually, abortion is very bad for your body. I have experience two times, but due to the baby’s died. He’s dead, but still in my body, so I had to let him go. The second time, when my baby is 3 months old, I went to the hospital to take the examine, and find he’s dead, he’s only 2 months old.

After I put them back home, I set up a good place for them in the balcony and water them wholly. They look very beautiful and make my house feel energetic. I really love them, however, after three days I found one of the plants the leave of one of the plants is ill, there are some black pots in the leaf. I’ve very worried about it, and I make a phone to the seller to ask her about the problem. She told me that maybe that it’s because I water too much, so I follow his instruction and water less and at the meantime I open the window more often and offer them better quality of air. And they  became much better.

Deepfake App Puts Your Face in Famous Movie Scenes
    (Source: www.breakingnewsenglish.com/1909/190906-deepfake.html)

A new online technique called deepfake is causing people to be worried about more fake news and other things that can mislead people. The word “deepfake” is a combination of “deep learning” (which is an important part of artificial intelligence) and “fake” (which means not real). Deepfake software allows people to replace part of a picture or video with another picture or video image. The result is a fake video. The software means you can put your face over the face of a talking president or movie star. This process will make your face speak in the voice of that president or movie star. Many people are worried the technology will be used during national elections. Deepfake videos could be used to trick voters.

A new deepfake app has gone viral in China. It lets users of the app put their face over the top of actors in scenes from movies or TV shows. The app is called Zao. It went to number one on the Chinese iOS App Store chart in just a few days after its release. A Twitter user has achieved a little fame by posting the Zao videos of himself in famous TV and movie scenes. His videos show that he really looks like the main actor in the movies The Hulk, Titanic, and in the TV fantasy drama Game of Thrones. It takes just eight seconds to do this. The Zao app is currently only available for people with a Chinese phone number. It cannot be downloaded from app stores in the USA or Europe.

Think of a topic to write about that lets you use some of the vocabulary from today. Either a time you hurt yourself / got hurt, or how you deal with stress from work.

    Writing

Last week I took a bread making course at ABC cooking studio. This is the first time I tried to make bread by hand instead of a bread maker.

It was a very different and impressive experience as I saw the whole process how bread is made with by my own eye. When you use a bread maker, you cannot see the process but just the finished bread.

Here is the recipe of Sweet Apple Crown bread I wrote down as a note.
    ingredient: flour 150g, sugar 30g, yeast 5g, salt 2g, butter 30g,egg 50g, apple 1 pc.
Step 1: Make the dough by mixing flour, yeast, sugar and the other ingredients.
Step 2: Knead the dough until it become smooth and stretchy. It takes time and hard work which is really tiring but really helps to relive press.
Step 3: Put the dough in a warm and wet environment. The dough will be rising and become twice bigger in half an hour due to the chemical change coursed by yeast.
Step 4: Shape and decorate the dough with apple and nuts and ferment again for about 10 minutes.
Step 5: Bake the bread in oven for 20 minutes.
Step 6: Enjoy your bread. Don’t forget to take a beautiful picture before eating.

Handmade bread takes time and effort. It is really tiring. My arms were sour after a 2-hour course. But it is really fun and relaxing.

    Revised

I have resigned from my job a month ago, I decided to take rest for some time. The reason I made the decision is that on the one hand, there was a little change in my position, on the other hand, maybe I need take more time to accompany my little son. I have been working very happily before 2017, a change occurred in 2019,and I had to change to another team, and I face more challenges. I don’t like to waste time in doing something I don’t like.

I am just worrying about my next step. For example, the career path and when I should get back to work and what I can do during my holiday. I don’t want the time to pass with no personal and I have no achievement. I hope the holiday could be meaningful to me.  I’m considering switching to another industry, like cosmetics which I had been doing years ago. I haven’t started my holiday, I still have some work to deal with.

For my holiday, I will review English, accompany/ take care of my son, I don’t have a travel plan yet. He’s too young, he’s 16 month. He’s learning some phrases.

I’m looking forward to doing something I really like, like bakery and cooking or just enjoying the quiet moment without playing with my mobile phone. I really hate it when the mobile phone has hundreds of unread WeChat message/ notifications. Maybe I can go swimming because summer is leaving very soon.
